Treasure of San Gennaro
Featured here is Michele Dato's Collana. Realized in 1679, the work was commissioned by the Deputation of San Gennaro Treasure Chapel for the Saint's Reliquary Bust. For the fulfilment of the necklace, characterized by oval links, the Diputation designed some of the Treasure's jewels (rubies and cut diamons jewel and an emerald donated by the Vicere Duke of Osana, a gold necklace with a ruby donated in sigh of dovotion by the Great Court of Vicaria and more) and also other jewels bought for the occasion. From 1679 to 1879, year of its definite settlement, many "jewels" donated by monarchs, Popes and devoted people have been added to the necklace. "Great gathering of jewels with different making and dates, but equalised by the great esteem and the distinguished origin."
This is but one of the many beautiful treasures included in this exhibition that is sure to wow audiences.
